CHALKBOARD FRAME

After seeing all of the posts and tutorials out there on the web, I thought I’d make a chalkboard to hang in our kitchen.  During my trips here and there I kept my eyes open for a cool old antique frame and I finally found one at The Olde Factory (an antique and crafts place) in our town.

Off I went to Home Depot to get my chalkboard paint and supplies.  The supplies that you will need to make your very own chalkboard are:  a cool picture frame, piece of very smooth wood cut to fit the opening in your cool frame, chalkboard paint, and spray paint to paint your cool frame.

Here is a picture of my cool frame that I found:

This is the sheet of wood that I had the lumber guy cut to the right size for me.  It’s a good idea to take your frame along that way you can get the correct cut of wood.

This is the Valspar chalkboard paint that I picked up at Home Depot.  By the way, I love this paint.  It’s very easy to work with and gave me great results.

This is a picture of my painted wood.  I put four coats of the chalkboard paint on the board.  Be sure to paint very smoothly and don’t leave any streaks behind!  Did I say that I loved this paint?

This is a pic of my finished PURPLE frame!  I used Rust-oleum’s Painter’s Touch Gloss paint in Purple.  Love the color — I thought our kitchen could use something fun!

This is a picture of the completed project hanging on our kitchen wall.

We are having lots of fun counting down the remaining days of school.  The kids also like that I put the weather for the day on the chalkboard!  They have been having a good time adding their artwork to the board, as well.  As I suspected,  the chalkboard has been a hit in our house!

Now go out and find yourself a cool frame and starting painting!
